Kez, the new Dota 2 hero, looks set to launch later today alongside the release of Crownfall Act 4 after a comic teasing the end of the saga was released overnight.
The Ascension Night comic was released a few hours ago, which seems to detail the backstory of Kez, who we know will be the next Dota 2 hero after he was announced at The International a few weeks ago. It seems likely that Kez’s backstory will set him up to enter the Crownfall saga when the final part of the event launches. You can read the comic here.
When the comic was released, community insider Wykrhm Reddy posted on X saying “Tomorrow we ascend.” Many have taken this to mean that Kez and the final act of Crownfall will be released later today, on November 7.
This train of thought seems the most logical, especially as almost all the other Crownfall acts have been released on a Thursday and the update was promised in “the weeks after The International” which many thought would be sooner than this. If I were a betting man, I’d put my money on the patch arriving tonight.
Unlike a lot of other Crownfall acts we have a good idea of what will be in the patch. Of course, there will be another map based meta game where you move around to experience the story after earning tokens from playing Dota, likely featuring all the usual interactions such as the candy shop and a few mini games.
Then there will of course be the release of Kez, a bird samurai hero who is expected to be primarily played in a core role. This comes just a few months after the release of Ringmaster, making it the closest launch of two Dota 2 heroes in quite a few years.
We can likely also expect there to be another comic or two in the final act, which will wrap up the story that has been told over the past few months. I also wouldn’t bet against there being a surprise or two, likely when it comes to cool cosmetics.
However, I’m not expecting a major balance patch to arrive later today, as a lot of Crownfall updates have only included things related to the event rather than addressing balance.
There’s no confirmed release time for Kez or Crownfall Act 4, but usually Dota 2 patches arrive in the late afternoon on the West coast, so that’s when I’m expecting it to arrive. That could make it a late night for Europeans hoping to get hands on with the new Dota 2 hero.
